Tezz Movie Review 2012

Star Cast: Anil Kapoor, Ajay Devgn, Kangna Ranaut, Zayed Khan, Sameera Reddy, Boman Irani, Mohan Lal and Mallika Sherawat.

Director: Priyadarshan

Producer: Ratan Jain

Music Directer: Sajid Wajid

Genre: Action/Thriller

Story: Tezz is a fast paced action-thriller which revolves around Aakash (Ajay Devgn) who is revengeful for the injustice done to him and his wife Nikita (Kangna Ranaut) in London. He along with Aadil (Zayed Khan) and Megha (Sameera Reddy) plant bomb in a speeding train from Glasgow to London and in return demand huge money from London government. Now, how will Counter Terrorism Command Arjun Khanna (Anil Kapoor) and Railway Traffic Control Officer Sanjay Raina (Boman Irani) overcome the dangerous situation and save the passengers is the rest of the story.

Story Treatment: Though lacking in novelty in terms of storyline, Tezz is filled with powerful moments. In fact, it leaves one spell-bound with some breathtaking scenes like how Boman Irani saves the head-on collision between the high-speed bomb stricken train and another coming from the opposite side. Also, Sameera Reddy’s dare-devil stunts keep ones at the edge of the seat. There is however, a flip side too as the screenplay looses threads post interval with some very unrealistic moments. Like how Anil Kapoor remains unhurt in a bomb explosion quite close to him.

Star Cast: Everyone associated in the film have mastered the art of acting. So, to evaluate as to who perform better is a real difficult job. Ajay Devgn is yet again simply fantastic. He efficiently switches lanes between helpless to a confident criminal. Anil Kapoor is a treat to watch as he gets into the skin of the character really well. Boman Irani impresses with his ‘A’ class performance. Sameera Reddy springs up a surprise with powerful stunts and acting in a small role though. Kangna Ranaut is strictly ok. Mohan Lal plays his part well.

Direction: Priyadarshan yet again proves his prowess as director. He knits an intriguing plot especially first half. The film however, draws inspiration from Hollywood thriller Jan de Bont’s Speed starring Keanu Reeves. Many glaring loop-holes post interval leaves one in despair. Like, Anil Kapoor loses so many moments where he could gauge the face of Ajay but to continue with the suspense element, the track gets dragged.

Music/ Dialogues/ Cinematography/Editing: Music breaks the flow of the story and isn’t great too. Mallika Sherawat looks funny rather than sexy in the item song. Dialogues are quite noteworthy. Cinematography along with VFX gives Tezz a very classy look. Editing isn’t crisp as it could have removed many unnecessary chases between the actors which lead to no conclusion.

Ups and downs: Fascinating first half, power-packed performances, classy cinematography and VFX, hard-hitting dialogues, direction are strong points. Weak storyline, music, editing are the drawbacks.

Overall, Tezz deserves a one-time watch as it doesn’t disappoint.

MOVIE RATING : 2/5
